Webaid.se - A site that generates funds for people in need

Webaid.se is a Internet site that generates money to people in need by using mobile phone technology, each SMS sent to Webaid.se will deduct an amount of money from your phone bill and thereby you assist them in their various projects. Sudan and the Darfur Crisis has got a lot of attention in Sweden through their sponsored advertisments on MTV and Radio channels like Rix FM and others.

Webaid.se co-operates with Läkarmissionen and IAS in the Darfur project.

About Webaid

Webaid is an association cooperating with well-known Swedish NGO:s that for a long period of time have been working with aid in different countries. Since year 2000, Webaid has been raising funds to many important needs in the world. These projects have been run and implemented through organisations like SOS-Barnbyar, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Star of Hope, Lutherhjälpen and Läkarmissionen. Each organisation has its own 90-account and stands under the inspection of Stiftelsen för Insamlingskontroll (SFI). Together with Läkarmissionen, Webaid is raising funds projects in S:t Petersburg (a city where a huge number of children live under humiliating circumstances), Sudan (water project), Sri Lanka (house building projects) and Kongo (health care services).

House building projects in Sri Lanka.

Webaid’s vision is to be a part of those who wants to create the fourth world, a world without poverty. There goal is to:

1) Reach out to new target groups and make them aware of, how they in a easy way can contribute to a positive development in the whole society.

2) Supply different mobile and IT- based services and make it easy for everybody to help suffering people and make them able to do it in spite of and lack of big money.

3) Create interest for aid and be a door to active giving and increasing humanitarian engagement.

Background

In autumn of 1999 the founder of Webaid, Niklas Aronsson, had some weeks when he intensively thought of what he wanted to do in life: “How should I use my time and my knowledge in a meaningful way and in the same time give me satisfaction in my daily life?”

This type of questions crossed his mind during these weeks. At that time Niklas also had quit his job and was studying IT. While he was trying to figure out what to focus on he suddenly got the idea one night while driving bicycle between Fridhemsplan and Fredhäll in Stockholm. He decided to use the powerful tools that Internet provides in order to raise funds for people in need! That night Webaid was born!

From 14 April 2000, Webaid.se is on the Internet, and the site is now generating money to needy people, which is the main goal.
